We’ve been beyond fortunate with weather this fall. With only 2 significant rain events since aspen began work, earth moving has been able to progress rapidly.

Early November they finished the driving range tee and performance center pad, freeing them up to progress through the rest of the course. The new 7th hole, formerly 6, was cut down 12’ across the first third of the fairway to generate soil to build 6 tees, 6 green, 7 tee, 5 green, and the approach on 3.

The new 6th tees were extended back from there original location. If you remember, there was a pine tree sitting behind the old 6th tees, the new 6th tees extend beyond that pines location with the slop reaching almost to the maple tree that sat to the left of 5 fairway.

5 green has been roughed in and features a duel level green separated by a nose in the front. There is also a bunker that’s tucked into the front of the green to guard it. 5 will still be a tough green but mostly level with each side sloping gently away from the center nose.

The green on 5 has been shifted to the right and slid back. Elevation is similar to the former green but has been raised 2-3 feet. 7 tees have been built to the right of it and the green sits very well between the taller 6th and 7th tees. We’re still in progress on all the holes, Lester makes frequent trips out and tweaks and adjusts location to work with the land.

I really like how the third approach is coming together. The green has been moved to the left slightly and raised. The fill for the tees on 7 have extended into the green and the approach area. Bunkering will be installed into the side of the hill for 7 tees. There’s still a lot of work to do but this area I’m a big fan of.

Clearing has also begun across the course, starting with the driving range location. GCM team began with the clearing while our contractor was mobilizing removing all the trees needed to create the driving range. Monday the 24th our contractors came in and had everything cleaned up in 4 hours. Clearing has moved now with the area between 11 and 3 complete and the areas between 18 and 10 in process. We expect all major clearing work to be completed by November 10th.

Aspen is working on the major earth work and then will come back to finish the feature grading. They have begun there cut on 11, moving soil to the green location, which moved back and to the right, and leveling the landing area. Massive earth moving operation being conducted over there, below are a few photos showing progress. 11 will end up with its own post once we’re a little closer as so much is changing on that hole. It will definitely win the “most improved” award on this project.

I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving and look for an update at the end of next week.
